BREWER RITES HELD MONDAY

Maurice A. Brewer, for 21 years Malcom postmaster and rural mail carrier, died at Des Moines General Hospital on Monday, March 3. He was 87.

Funeral services for Maurice Brewer were held Thursday, March 6, at 1:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Malcom. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery.

Born May 8, *1882, in Conrad, he later moved with his family to Sutherland, where he attended school and graduated in the class of 1910. Following two years at Cornell College, he returned to Malcom and clerked at the Vogel Hardware Store while living with the William F. Vogel family.

He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War I. After returning to Malcom, he took the position as postmaster and mail carrier. He married Sarah Jane Robb in 1920. The couple had two daughters.

He had been a resident of the Altoona Manor Care Center for the past six years.

He is survived by his daughters, Maurine Coe and Jean Schnoebelen, both of Des Moines; two sisters; and ten grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his wife, his parents, James and Rosemond Palmer Brewer, and five brothers.
