The Grinnell (IA) Herald; Feb. 16, 1926

IN MEMORIAM

Mrs. Katherine Jane Honore Satchell, was born on the 7th day of March, 1858, in Chatham, Ontario, Canada.

She was the daughter of Francis and Mary Thackeray, and a near relative of the noted English poet, William Makepiece Thackeray.

She was one of a family of six children; two boys and four girls, the boys were Frank W. and Richard W., and the girls were Mary, Ellen, Etta, and herself. Of these Etta (now Mrs. H.E. Errett of Nevada, Missouri) and Richard W., of Grinnell, Iowa, still survive her, while Frank W., Mary, and Ellen, preceded her to the spirit world.

In the spring of 1879 she came with her father's family to Grinnell, where she remained until she came to California.

On the first day of September 1881, she was married to Mr. L.W. Satchell, also of Grinnell. To this union two children were born, namely, Mary Lillian, and Katherine Louese, both of whom survive her.

Soon after their marriage her husband engaged in business in Grinnell, which he continued for several years, when he became connected with the Shrader Drug Co., of Iowa City, which he retained for about 20 years.

In the meantime her eldest daughter married, and she and her husband came to California and located for a time in Los Angeles, and later came on to Riverside.

About the year 1917, on account of the delicate health of Katherine Louese, she brought her to Riverside, and in the year 1921, her husband closed out his business in Iowa City, and joined her here; and here, at 122 Rubidoux Ave., they have since made their home.

Mrs. Satchell was in every way a truly estimable woman, and every where she lived, her loving disposition and quiet, dignified character endeared her to every one with whom she came in contact; as the many beautiful floral tributes, and numberless letters and cards of loving sympathetic affection, abundantly testified.

Funeral services were conducted from the Chapel of J.H. Flinn Saturday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, Rev. J. Lewis Gillies of Des Moines, Iowa, officiating.

Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
