RITES HELD FOR MR. THOMPSON

Fred C. Thompson, 79, of New Sharon died Jan. 15 at an Oskaloosa hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Thompson were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon, with the Rev. Scott Woodworth officiating. Burial was at the Friends Cemetery, New Sharon.

The son of Edward and Annie Rutherford Thompson, he was born Sept. 9, 1897, in Poweshiek County. He lived in the Grinnell area during his early years. Mr. Thompson had been associated with City Service as a tank wagon operator for many years.

He served as a member of the New Sharon City Council for several years and was a past president of the New Sharon School Board. He was also an assistant fire chief with the New Sharon Volunteer Fire Department.

He was married to Alta McLain on Aug. 14, 1920.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Max E. Thompson of Grinnell and Gerald W. Thompson of Brooklyn; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Clara Russell of Grinnell.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Betty Wallace; a granddaughter; and one brother.

Pallbearers were Roger Thompson, Dana Wallace, Vern Bryan, Rodney Thompson, Tom Thompson, and Jeff Thompson.
