BEN C. BUCK SERVICES HELD

Ben C. Buck, 92, of Rte. 2, Grinnell, died Thursday morning at Grinnell General Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

The son of George Henry and Mary Edna Marsh Buck, he was born June 3, 1880, at Sabetha, Kan. At the age of 9, he returned with his family to Grinnell. The family farmed north of town for a few years, later moving to a farm in Arkansas.

At the age of 19, he returned to the Grinnell area. On June 28, 1906, he was married to Berhta Luella Turnbull. The couple had two children, Mrs. John (Margaret) Finch of Hamilton, Mo., and Harold W. Buck of Rte. 2, Grinnell.

Mr. Buck was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational and had taken an active part in the lay activities of the church. He was a long-time member of the Farm Bureau and the Victor Grange, and he had been active in 4-H work. In recent years he had been a member of the Grinnell Kiwanis Club, and he attended the Men's Club at the Mayflower Home. He was active in community affairs. Mr. Buck's grandparents built the first dwelling home in Grinnell on the present site of the Mayflower Home.

Mr. Buck's wife Bertha Luella died May 9, 1944. On June 3, 1957, he was married to May Dunham Hannay. The couple continued to farm northwest of Grinnell.

Survivors include his wife May; his daughter and son; a step-daughter, Mrs. Wade (Margaret) Hamor of Lincoln, Neb.; a step-daughter-in-law, Mrs. Edward Hannay; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife; a step-son, Edward Hannay; two half-brothers, Henry and Lute Buck; a sister, Mrs. Ralph (May) Dunham, and five brothers, George, Hammond, Edwin, Fred, and Elisha Buck.

Funeral services for Mr. Buck were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Church of Christ-Congregational, with the Rev. Newell E. Davis officiating. Organist was Mrs. Newell Davis.

Pallbearers were Dale Buck, Lyman Case, Virgil Doud, Grinnell Dunham, Ithel Gillespie, and Keith Paulson. Honorary pallbearers were Hugo Hasselbrink, John Kaisand, Fred Jones, Carl Louden, the Rev. Walter Schilling, and L.B. Watt.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the United Church of Christ-Congregational.
