ROBERT D. SIMPSON, 67

Robert D. Simpson, 67, of Montezuma, died suddenly Wednesday evening, Dec. 25, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell.

Services were held on Saturday, Dec. 28, at Watts Funeral Home. Officiating were the Rev. Howard Lord and Rev. John Darlington. Miss Alice Underwood was the organist and she accompanied the soloist, Mr. Boyd Sparks. The music selection was "The Lord's Prayer." Honorary casket bearers were Pearl Poe, Boyd Sparks, M.O. Hansen, Eugene Merck and Chuck Wengert. Casket bearers were Larry Simpson, Mack Purdum, Larry Jenkins, Chester Simpson, Jr., Jerry Akers and Larry Houser. Military graveside rites were performed by members of Blakley-Stevens Legion Post No. 169. Burial was in the Jackson Township Cemetery.

Robert Dean Simpson was born May 5, 1929, in Poweshiek County, the son of George W. and Alice (Morrow) Simpson. He graduated from Montezuma High School in 1946. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 26, 1955, he was united in marriage with Dorothy Akers at the Christian Church in Exira. To this union, three children were born. They lived all of their married life in Montezuma, where Bob worked for the Poweshiek County Engineering Department, retiring from there in 1989. He was currently employed at Sig Manufacturing in Montezuma.

He was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church, Methodist Men, Montezuma Lion's Club and the Midway Grange. Bob loved his family and especially proud of his three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Claire, Chester and Lloyd.

Bob is survived by his wife, Dorothy and their family, Dennis Simpson; Lisa and Russ Gabriel and children, Krista and Kory; and Angie and Mark Hasley and son Jakob, all of Montezuma; one sister and her husband, Helen and Robert Willett of Brooklyn; a sister-in-law Lucille Simpson of Grinnell; his mother-in-law, Leona Akers of Exira; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ruth and Larry Jenkins of Greeley, Colo., and Jerry and Jo Akers of Ankeny; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.

Memorials can be made to the Montezuma Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance.
