CONDUCT RITES FOR MRS. CARRIE NEWTON

Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Newton, 86, were held Saturday afternoon at two o'clcok at Bramer's funeral home in charge of the Rev. G.H. Hulsebus, pastor of First United Presbyterian church. Mrs. Ed Bartachek was organist.

Interment was in I.O.O.F. cemetery with the following grandsons serving as pallbearers: Charles Kriegel of Muscatine, William Stevens of Waverly, Richard Newton of Chicago, Albert Newton of Iowa City and Jack Warfel and Gary Newton of Brooklyn. In charge of flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Billick.

Mrs. Newton, who had lived in the Brooklyn community for over 50 years, died last Thursday at the Watts nursing home in Marengo where she had lived the past year. She had been a member of the United Brethren church in South Brooklyn.

Carrie Tressie Block Newton, daughter of Martin and Anna Yeska Block, was born Sept. 30, 1873, at Geneseo, Ill. and died Sept. 29, 1960. She came with her family to Brooklyn where she was married March 1, 1892, to Charles Newton. Fourteen children were born to the couple, four of whom survive.

Her surviving children are Mrs. William (Daisy) Stevens of Victor; Herbert Newton of Sacramento, Calif.; Sylvester Newton of Graham, Ky. and Mrs. Balzer (Theodosia) Kriegel of Harlan. She leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and the following children: Hazel Warfel and Pearl, Ella, Mabel, Clarence, Leo, Cleo, Homer, Ray and Dorothy Newton.
