DEATH OF THOMAS SMITH

Thomas Smith, son of Samuel and Nancy Smith, was born at Cullybackey, County Antrim, Ireland, October 23, 1830, died November 29, 1915, aged 85 years, 1 month and 6 days. He came with his parents to America in 1842, settling in Racine county, Wisconsin, coming to Iowa in 1846 and remaining there until the commencement of the civil war. He served five years in the 14th Ill. Cavalry Co. I., receiving his honorable discharge at the close of the war.

He was married Aug. 2, 1867 to Miss Lydia Nichols. To this union five children were born, Mrs. John Keeler, Mrs. Will Heartgrave, and Mrs. Frank Worrel of Ft. Dodge, Mrs. Will Corbett of Marengo and Sam Smith of Brooklyn, who with the wife and one brother, William Smith of this place survives him.

Funeral services were held yesterday at his late home, conducted by Rev. S.E. Koons. Interment was made in I.O.O.F. cemetery.
