OBITUARY
James M. Kibbee was born Feb. 11, 1850, in Delhi, Iowa and died at the St. Francis hospital in Grinnell, Iowa, following an operation. He was the only son of Amariah Kibbee, having one sister, Mrs. Tilda Gangley; two half-sisters, Mrs. James Grimm and Mrs. Frank Freeberg, all of Des Moines. He also had two half-brothers, John and Charles Foster.
In October, 1870, he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Byers. To this union were born eight children one of whom preceded him in death, Willie who died in infancy. The remaining children are Francis of Granada, Minn., Flora Porter of Ashland, Wis., Robert of Granada, Minn., Mrs. Cora Smith and Elmer of Brooklyn, Iowa; Mrs. Mabel Newton of Mt. Vernon, S. Dak., and Mrs. Myrtle Hipp of Des Moines, Iowa.
The deceased united with the Presbyterian church when a young man. When residing in the country near Guernsey, he attended the Fairview church of that community, of which he was still a member.
For thirteen years he served as marshall of the city of Brooklyn, during which time he gave all of his attention and time to the work regardless of his own feelings or fatigue.
He was a man, who when performing a duty for another knew no such term as "shirk."
His family were first in his thoughts. His home life a pleasure to all.
In sickness among relatives or friends he was always ready to help and bestow kindness wherever needed.
His beloved wife, seven children and many other relatives and friends survive to mourn his loss.
The following from a distance were present at the funeral services: Mrs. Eliza Jane Bluer of Rock Island, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Karr, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Eliott, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Byers, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Byers, Mr. and Mrs. David Byers, Mrs. and Mrs. John Byers, all of Montezuma, Mrs. Connell, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Noble Eliott, Mr. Stevenson of Deep River.
