CONDUCT RITES WEDNESDAY FOR MRS. CORA SMITH
Mrs. Cora Smith, 81, Grinnell, died about noon Monday at a local hospital where she had been a patient for the past few days.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles E. Landis, pastor of the United Presbyterian church, officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Rhee Auman.
Serving as flower bearers were Wilbur Allen, Reuel Elliott, Beecher Graham, Sam Neff, Henry Pawlak, and Don Starnes.
Interment was in the IOOF cemetery at Brooklyn.
The daughter of James and Elizabeth Byers Kibbee, she was born at Brooklyn on Nov. 25th, 1879, one of a family of eight children. She attended the rural schools in Poweshiek county.
On May 7th, 1902, she was united in marriage with Samuel Thomas Smith at Marengo by the Rev. O.T. Langfilt. They became the parents of five children: Eloida Smith, who died in 1915; Floyd G. Smith of Burlington; Amos and Cleo Smith and Mrs. Lucille Pimlott, all of Grinnell.
In addition to her four children she is survived by 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Mable Newton of Mount Vernon, S.D., and Mrs. Myrtle Weatherly of Des Moines.
Preceding her in death were her husband in 1949; four brothers, William, Robert, Elmer, and Francis Kibbee; and one sister, Mrs. Flora Porter.
Mrs. Smith had lived in Grinnell since December of 1956, having moved here from Malvern. She was a member of the United Presbyterian church.
