CLEO E. SMITH
Cleo E. Smith, 78, of 424 Eighth Ave., Grinnell, died of a heart attack Tuesday, Sept. 10, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Grinnell Christian Church, with the Rev. John Epperson officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
He was the son of Samuel Thomas and Cora Kibbee Smith and was born Feb. 4, 1918, in Brooklyn. He was raised and attended school there. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Air Force.
He was married to Georgia Young April 21, 1949, in Stoutland, Mo. They lived in Grinnell where he worked as an auto mechanic for the former Mitchell Motors and Paschall Motors.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Barbara Ann Smith of Grinnell and Wanda Sue Hidlebaugh of Grinnell; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Amos and Floyd; and two sisters, Lucille Pimlott and Eloida Smith.
A memorial fund in his name will be established.
