DONALD A. COBURN

Doanld A. Coburn, 88, of Brooklyn, died Thursday, Jan. 11, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Graveside memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Ronald Van Heukelom, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiated.

Donald Arthur Coburn, son of Arthur LeRoy Coburn and Mattie Ethel Jacobs Coburn, was born May 1, 1912, in Brooklyn, Ia. He received his education in Brooklyn, graduating from high school in 1931 and attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Ill.

Don served with the United States Navy from Oct. 22, 1932 to Oct. 2, 1936 and from Dec. 18, 1941 to Nov. 25, 1945. He was a member of Francis Gallagher American Legion Post #294. Mr. Coburn worked for TIP REC for 38 years.

On Jan. 23, 1948, Don was married to Birdie E. Kibbee at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Preceding him in death are his parents; a daughter, Doneen, three sisters, Mildred Fouts, Bea Read and Dorothy Coburn; two brothers Harold and Kenneth Coburn; and twin grandsons preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Birdie; one son, Donald K. Coburn and his wife, Donnette of Brooklyn; two daughters and their husbands, Donnette and George Williams of Brooklyn and Birdeen and Larry Minnich of Garwin; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. Nevenhoven Funeral Services were in charge of arrangements.
