GLADYS STROVERS

Gladys Strovers, 95, of Grinnell died Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Mayflower Health Care Center.

A funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 23, at Smith Funeral Home with John Epperson, pastor of Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen McCune. Pallbearers were Chad, David and Steve Noe, Jan and Lindsey Tharp and Laura Woods. Honorary bearers were Laurie Amaral, Gregory and Thomas Brush, Andrea Lebrun, Craig and Matthew Noe and Hanna Woods. Burial was in West Liberty Cemetery, rural Montezuma. Memorials may be made to the Mayflower Human Needs Fund.

The daughter of J. Frank and Mabel Shelton Clay, she was born Nov. 10, 1910, in Sheridan Township, Poweshiek County. She was raised in Grinnell and received her education from the Grinnell School District. She was married to Frank Strovers on April 1, 1930, in Winterset. They made their home in Kellogg prior to moving to the Grinnell area in 1938. She was a homemaker and also was employed at DeLong Sportswear as well as some housekeeping at Mayflower. She was a member of the Church of Christ and Kellogg Historical Society.

She is survived by one son Clifford Strovers of Grinnell; two daughters, Lela Brush of Westfield, Ind., and Marty Noe of Greeley, Colo.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank in 2002; one sister, Mary Louise Smith; and one granddaughter Julie Minenga.
