MISS G. HOLLOWAY SUCCUMBS; TAUGHT HERE FOR 44 YEARS

Miss Georgiana Holloway, 78, a Grinnell teacher for more than 40 years, died early Friday morning at a local hospital after an illness of the past six weeks.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at the Smith Funeral Home with Dr. Leland W. Mann, pastor of the Congregational church, officiating. Vocal music will be by Mrs. Wayne Denny, accompanied by Mrs. Rhee Auman at the organ.

Pallbearers will be Henry Alden, Arthur Brown, Lyman Case, Carl Child, Jay Stewart and Clarence Vogt. Burial will be in Hazelwood cemetery.

She was the daughter of Marcis (Mearis) O. Holloway and Mary Charlotte Pike and was born in Harden township, Greene county, Iowa, on Nov. 12th, 1881. The family moved to Grinnell when she was a young girl and she graduated from Grinnell high school with the class of 1901.

Miss Holloway attended and graduated from Grinnell College in 1905, after which she began an illustrious teaching career, culminating with her retirement in 1949 after teaching general science course at Grinnell high school. In 1949 she received from the Alumni Assn. of Grinnell College its highest award bestowed upon its members for her teaching career.

She was a member of the Congregational church and the Women's Fellowship. She was recently elected regent of the D.A.R. Chapter in Grinnell.

Miss Holloway traced her ancestry back to colonial and Revolutionary War days. She was also related to Col. Zebulon Pike, Revolutionary War hero and explorer who mapped much of the West and Rocky Mountain areas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.

Surviving are two nieces, Mrs. Charles H. Gillis of Summerville, N.J., and Mrs. W.E. Falconer of Walla Walla, Wash. She is also survived by three cousins, Mrs. Arthur Brown and Jay Stewart, both of Jefferson, and Mrs. T.G. Garfield of Ames.
