RICHARD BELL

Richard Bell died at his home three and a fourth miles northwest of Newburg, Tuesday, February 8, 1921, at 12:30 o'clock, after an illness of nearly five months, at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 27 days.

Mr. Bell was born at Crankill, Ireland June 12, 1844, and came to America at the age of 23 years. His first home in America was at Davenport, Iowa, where he lived for six years. While livng there he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Preston. To this union five children were born, John, Charles and Mrs. Anna Wertz of Hickory Grove township; Mrs. Etta Tilton of Marshalltown and Nellie, who died eleven years ago.

In 1872 they moved to Mariposa township, where he united with the Presbyterian church. Two years later they moved to Hickory Grove township where they have lived for the past twenty-three years.

He leaves to mourn their loss, besides his wife and children, three sisters, Mrs. Nancy McCullough of Ireland, Mrs. Anna Smith of Minnesota and Mrs. Lizzie Madill of Newburg, eighteen grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Richard Bell was a kindly man and held in respect and esteem by those among whom he has made his home for forty-seven years, more than the average life time.

The funeral was held from the Hickory Grove U.B. Church at 1:30 Thursday and was largely attended. The pastor, Rev. L.B. Foster, conducted the service, assisted by Rev. and Mrs, J.W. Primrose of Grundy Center. Burial followed in the cemetery at the church.--Gilman Dispatch.
