PEARL DOTY

Pearl Doty, 80, of rural Brooklyn died Sunday, May 21, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, with the Rev. Kalen K. Fristad officiating. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Jim Palmer, Bradley Foster, David King, Scott Doty, Steve King, Kevin King, Dwight Doty, Steve Doty and Kevin Doty. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom, with the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

A memorial fund has been established.

She was born June 19, 1908, in Arriba, Colo., the daughter of Jay and Jennie Maude Tuttle Jewell. She moved with her family to Everly, Iowa, when she was 9 years old and received her education there. She later moved to Brooklyn. She was married to Glenn Doty Oct. 8, 1930, in Des Moines, and the couple farmed north of Brooklyn until Mr. Doty's death in 1958. Mrs. Doty continued to live on the family farm.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, the Gleeful Workers Club, and the Widows Group.

Surviving are four sons, Ross of White Pigeon, Mich., Daryl of Cedar Rapids, Marvin of Grinnell and Dale of Brooklyn; five daughters, Vivian King of Grinnell, Gladys Palmer of Cedar Rapids, Joan Foster of Cedar Rapids, Lucille King of Warr Acres, Okla., and Kay Dieterich of Brooklyn; one stepson, Abel Doty of Ely; three sisters, Cora Petersen of Grinnell and Lucy Drury and Thelma Wischnesky, both of Olympia, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, two brothers, one sister, one step-daughter and one granddaughter.
