Mrs. Emma W. Speth Buried Here Monday

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Trinity Lutheran Church for Mrs. Emma W. Speth, wife of Henry T. Speth, who passed away Friday evening at 6:30 o'clock in Davenport, at 1822 Iowa Street.  The services were conducted by Rev. J. A. Miller, pastor of the St. Paul's English Lutheran church in Davenport, of which Mrs. Speth was a member.  Mr. Miller also conducted services in Davenport Monday morning.  The pallbearers at the services here were Chris Vogt, Charles Appleby, Gus Kelm, A. Jansen, Herman Ewaldt and Burt Speth.  Burial was in the Trinity Lutheran cemetery.

Emma W. Schultz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schultz (nee Harmon*) was born on March 3, 1866, in Malcom township, Poweshiek county, Iowa.  Emma was baptised in infancy and later confirmed in the Lutheran church of Malcom township.  She received her education in the rural schools of Malcom township.

On December 11, 1888, she was united in marriage to Henry T. Speth.  They started life's journey together on a farm in Malcom township, where they resided until 1914, when they moved to their present home at 1811 Iowa street, Davenport, Iowa.

To this union was born one son, Harry E., who together with the husband, survive her; also one granddaughter, Shirley, and one sister, Mary Ingerman of Quantico, Virginia.  Mrs. Speth's mother* died when she was only a few months old.  Her father passed away in February 1912; also her two sisters, namely Ella (Mrs. John Bahrenfus), who died on April 27, 1929, and Ida (Mrs. Henry Ahrens), on July 20, 1934.

Mrs. Speth passed away on June 8, 1935, at her home in Davenport, Iowa, at 6:30 a. m., after a long illness.

Funeral services were conducted at the Hills and Frederick Funeral Chapel in Davenport, Iowa, at 10 o'clock Monday morning, June 10, with her pastor, Rev. Mr. Miller, in charge.  Later services were held at the Trinity Lutheran church in Malcom township at 2 o'clock, with interment in the Lutheran cemetery.

Mrs. John Carter and Mrs. Dempster sang two numbers, "Jesus Saviour Pilot Me" and "Some Glad Sweet Day."  Mrs. Richard Wichman and Dorothy Kelm were in charge of the floral offerings.  Mrs. Lena Oliver of Guilford, Mo., and Fred Bahrenfus of Stahl, Mo., were out-of-town relatives present for the funeral.
