AN OBITUARY OF MRS. J.C. SPIRE

Flora Lillian, daughter of William T. and Mary M. Haynes, was born in Sheridan, Poweshiek county, Iowa, on Dec. 7, 1879, and departed this life Jan. 17, 1934, in the St. Francis hospital in Grinnell, at the age of 54 years, one monh and 10 days.

She grew to young womanhood in this community and lived here until her marriage, moving to Columbia township, Tama county, where she resided nearly fifteen years, then moving to the farm in Sheridan township, where she lived until her death.

She was united in marriage at her home, to James C. Spire, on Feb. 23, 1904. To this union one daughter, Grace Vivian, was born, who with the sorrowing husband, remain to mourn her passing.

A few years before her marriage she joined the Sheridan M.E. church, later transferring her membership to the Grandview church and then again bringing her letter back to the Sheridan church, where she remained a faithful member until the end.

She was a member of the Grandview Ladies' Aid, serving in the capacity of president and secretary. She was also a member of the Sheridan Ladies' Aid, was a willing worker and always interested in its welfare.

She was a loving wife and mother, devoted to her home, finding her greatest happiness in doing kindly things for others.

About four years ago her health began to fail. In the hope that it might be restored, she was taken to various medical institutions but to no avail.

She was a patient and uncomplaining sufferer until she fell asleep in Jesus.

Beside the husband and daughter, she leaves to mourn her loss six sisters, Mrs. June Hays, Mrs. Ada Deedrick, Mrs. Blanche Meyers and Mrs. William Schroeder of Grinnell; Mrs. Olive Wright of Bradgate and Mrs. William Oltrogge of Newburg, and four brothers, Joseph Haynes of Ayr, N. Dak.; Robert Haynes of Sheridan; Carl Haynes of Riceville, and Ellis Haynes of Gilman.

The pallbearers were Harvey and Clark McFate, John Lynch, J.F. Shope, Wilbur Rhodes and Earl Dee.

The funeral services were conducted at Sheridan by the Rev. W.S. Kight of Des Moines, a former pastor. Interment was in the Sheridan cemetery.
