ROBT. L. HAYNES, FORMER RESIDENT OF SHERIDAN, DIES

Robert L .Haynes passed away at St. Mary's hospital, Rochester, Minn. on Wednesday, April 26, 1939. Death came after five weeks of illness and following two operations for cancer.

Mr. Haynes had enjoyed life long good health until his final illness.

Robert Lincoln, son of William Thomas and Mary Anthony Haynes was born on a farm in Sheridan township, Poweshiek county, Iowa, on May 26, 1881, and died at the age of 57 years 11 months.

He was the fourth of a family of 12 children. His childhood and early manhood were spent with his parents in Sheridan.

On Feb. 16, 1904, he was united in marriage with Ella May Sanborn of Tama county. To this union were born two children; Irene Mary and Charles Joseph.

In the spring of 1905 the family moved to a farm at Bradgate, Iowa, which continued to be their home for 18 years. The next five years were spent on a farm near Madelia, Minn.

Following the death of his wife in 1927, he came to Tama where he made his home with F.D. Sanborn and family. Since 1932 he had lived with his daughter, Mrs. Max Hays and for the past four years with his sister, Mrs. William Schroeder of Tama. Since his return from Minnesota he had followed the carpenter trade.

Mr. Haynes was baptized in childhood at Sheridan and was a member of the First Presbyterian church at Madelia.

Besides the children, Mrs. Max Hays of Grinnell and Charles J. of Omaha, Nebr., he leaves one grandchild, Marlan Max Hays; two brothers, Joseph R. of Ayr, North Dakota and Ellis D. of Bradgate; and five sisters, Mrs. Esther Schroeder of Tama, Mrs. Olive Wright of Bradgate, Mrs. June Hays, Mrs. Ada Deedrick and Mrs. Gail Oltrogge of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and his brother, Carl of Riceville; his sisters, Calista, who died in childhood, and Mrs. Flora Spire of Malcom and Mrs. Blanche Meyers of Grinnell.

Funeral services were held from the Sheridan church at 2:30 Friday, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. S. Kight.

The church was filled with friends and the beautiful flora displays showed the love and respect for him and the high esteem in which he was held.
