DOROTHY AUSTIN RITES MONDAY

Dorothy L. Austin, 72, of 610 Main St., Grinnell, died Thursday, Nov. 6, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sam Reaves, pastor of the Grinnell Assembly of God Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and vocalists were Emil and Elizabeth Gerard. Pallbearers were Bruce Austin, David Austin, Dennis Austin, Larry Austin, Bob Kline and Larry Kline. Honrorary bearers were Addison Jones and the Rev. Donald Skiles. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of John and Jane Beeler Reid, she was born May 27,1914, at Ewart. She attended rural schools and later graduated from Grinnell High School. She received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls and taught in rural schools. She was later employed as a secretary at the former Hatcher Auto Co. on Main St. here.

On March 23, 1945, she was married to Charles W. Austin at Iowa City. The couple farmed northeast of Grinnell. Following the death of her husband in 1975, she moved to Grinnell. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Mrs. Austin is survived by her mother, Jane Reid of Grinnell; her son, John Austin of Cleveland, Tenn.; five step-children, Clyde B. Austin of Grinnell, Irene Terrazas of Santa Fe, N.M., Inez Kimm of Iowa City, Audrey Oltrogge of Grinnell and Vaughn Austin of Arlington, Texas; one granddaugher; 14 step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a stepson, Pvt. Wayne Austin, who died as a prisoner of war during the Korean conflict in 1954; her father; two step-grandchildren; and a twin brother and sister, John and Edith Reid.
