MRS. MCNURLEN RITES TUESDAY

Lois M. McNurlen, 63, of 906 Pearl St., Grinnell, died Saturday, Feb. 11, at Marshalltown Area Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with burial in Hazelwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

The daughter of Herbert and Hazel Earp Kelly, she was born Oct. 31, 1920, in Polk County. She attended Polk County schools and graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines.

On Nov. 7, 1942, she was married to James A. McNurlen in Princeton, Mo., and the couple lived in West Des Moines. They moved to Grinnell where they owned and operated the former Model Lunch restaurant.

Following her husband's death, Mrs. McNurlen moved to Marshalltown where she lived from 1962 to 1982. While living in Marshalltown she owned and operated the Temples Tap and the Backstage Lounge. She and her husband, Mel Adams, moved back to Grinnell in December 1982.

She is survived by her husband, Mel Adams of Grinnell; her children, Sandra Jefferson of Des Moines and Dennis McNurlen of Grinnell; her mother, Hazel Carter of Grinnell; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her brother, Raymond Kelly of Thayer. She was preceded in death by her first husband, her father, and her brother, Vernon L. Kelly.
