Earnest Greene

Earnest J. Greene, 89, of Waterford, Wis., formerly of Moline, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Memorial Hospital, Burlington, Wis.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at Mealy Funeral Home, Waterford. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday. Inurnment of ashes will take place in Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman, Iowa, at a later date.

He was born July 9, 1918, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of the late Curtis William and Orpah Clarrisa Taber Green. He attended Grinnell area schools and Iowa State University. He served his country in the Coast Guard. On April 25, 1943, in Chicago, he married Gloria Dorothy Iehl. The couple was married nearly 65 years. Earnest was an engineering draftsman, working in Racine, Wis., most of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 65 years, Gloria; five children, Penelope (Marlin) Elkins, James (Dawn VanDyke) Greene, Victoria (Tom) Ritenour, David (Julie) Greene and Rebecca Greene; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rosalie Barry and Lillian Bitcon; and two brothers, O. Curtis Greene and Glenn Edwin (Lida) Greene.
