HAZEL PEARCE SERVICES HELD

Mrs. Hazel Pearce, 80, of Rte. 2, Grinnell, the widow of Dwight A. Pearce, died unexpectedly early Saturday morning at Grinnell General Hospital.

The daughter of Frank and Alta Adkins Matteson, she was born on her parents' farm west of Grinnell on June 24, 1893. She attended rural schools near her home. On June 17, 1921, she was married to Dwight A. Pearce in Newton. The couple had one daughter, Mrs. Dwight (Mary) Cook of Grinnell. Mrs. Pearce lived all her life in the house in which she was born.

She is survived by her daughter; a grandson, Jeffery; and a sister, Mrs. Harry (Mina) Crowder of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight, Sept. 24, 1968.

Funeral services for Mrs. Pearce were held at 1:30 p.m. today (Monday) at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Morris Hay, pastor of the Hickory Grove E.U.B. Church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner, and pallbearers were Kenneth Adkins, Verlin Adkins, Leo Ahrens, Virgil Doud, Raymond Innis, and Kenneth Keenan. Honorary pallbearers were Lester Adkins, Henry Ahrens, Aaron Cook, George Decatur, Lawrence Decatur, Lloyd Durr, and Otto Durr.

Burial was in Rock Creek Cemetery.
