JOHN A. REID CALLED BY DEATH

John A. Reid was born at Ewart, Iowa, Oct. 27th, 1884, and died at his home at Grinnell, Iowa, Sunday, Sept. 1st, 1929, being 44 years, 10 months and 4 days old. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Reid, both deceased. Here he grew to manhood and in early life was converted and united with the United Presbyterian church. On Dec. 28, 1910, he was united in marriage to Miss Edith Jane Beeler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Beeler of Washington township. To this union were born three children, Dorothy Loretta, now 15 years old, and twin babes, John Beeler and Edith Carolyn, who died in infancy.

In the spring of 1917 the family moved to Malcom, Iowa, where they lived happily among new friends and surroundings. They became residents of Grinnell in the spring of 1926 when Mr. Reid took charge of the Shell Petroleum Corporation as their distributor in this territory. By this careful management and honest dealings, he soon established a large volume of business each month. Mr. Reid's health became impaired a year ago but not until six weeks ago did it become serious. He employed help to take his place, that he might rest and abide by the physician's instructions. A month ago he went to Rochester to go through the Mayo Bros. clinic. He remained there a week but finally returned to his home, encouraged to some extent.

Since returning home he has been confined to his bed and loving hands administered to his needs and everything was done to make his last days comfortable. He gradually weakened day by day and on Sunday at three o'clock, this life slipped away, after a brave fight for the life he longed for. The funeral was held at the Methodist church Wednesday, Sept. 4, at two-thirty, conducted by Rev. E.M. Gregson of Eldon, Iowa, and Rev. E.W. Gregson of Montezuma, Iowa. The floral offerings were beautiful and were a tribute of the respect and high esteem the community held for Mr. Reid. The songs sung by Mrs. McCuniff and Mrs. Dempster were his favorite hymns. The pallbearers were his six nephews, Leo, Gordon, Emory and Wilmer Farley, Fred Bradley and Lewis Windhurst.

He leaves his devoted widow and daughter, Dorothy, one brother, James Reid, and one sister, Mrs. Clara Farley, besides many close relatives to mourn his loss. His remains were borne to beautiful Hazelwood, where they were laid to rest to await the resurrection morn.

Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Keefer of Lincoln, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs. James Gauley and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Reeves of Rock Island, Ill., L.A Windhurst and daughter, Mrs. Elsie Vagstad and Bobbie of Claremont, Minn., Mrs. John Jeffries and son, Norman of Chicago, Ill., Mr. Hugh McMeekin, Mrs. John McMeekin, Wilmer McMeekin, Mrs. Albert Johnson and Mr. McWheney of Coal Valley, Ill,. Mrs. E.S. Morrison of Leavenworth, Kans., A.L. Gaskin and Joe Whitehill of Marshalltown, Paul Moire of Moline, Ill., and Dr. J.W. Souter of Oskaloosa, Iowa. The widow's and daughter's hearts are crushed but may they find comfort in the words, "Thy Will be Done."
