JANE REID RITES CONDUCTED

Jane Reid, 98,of 610 Main St., Grinnell, died Thursday, Oct. 8, at Friendship Manor.

Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Sam Reaves, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, officiating. Pallbearers were David Austin, John Austin, Robert Kline, Larry Reams, Ronald Reams and Clair Wells.

The daughter of John Sanders and Ellen Beeler, she was born on Dec. 25, 1888, at the family farm home in Washington Township. She attended rural schools, later graduating from Grinnell High School.

On Dec. 28, 1910, she was married to John A. Reid at the family home. The couple farmed in the Ewart and Malcom areas before coming to Grinnell in the late 1920s. Mrs. Reid operated Mary Jane's Coffee Shop in Grinnell for several years and was later employed by the Morrison-Shults Glove Factory.

She was a member of the Church of God and, later, the Assembly of God where she was also involved with the Women's Missionary Council.

She is survived by a grandson, five step-grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, 13 step-great-grandchildren, and 10 step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three children, Dorothy Austin and John and Edith in infancy; three step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; five brothers and four sisters.
