JAMES RUTHERFORD'S DEATH.

Sturdy Scotchman Was One of Poweshiek County's Prominent Farmers.

Special to Times-Republican.

Grinnell, Dec. 17.--James Rutherford one of Poweshiek county's prominent farmers, died quite suddenly at the home of his daughter at Westfield last Friday evening. He had been in his usual health, and quite vigorous for his years, retired as usual for the night, and by morning had passed away. The deceased was born in Scotland, and was brought to this country when 18 years old. He would have been 76 years old at his next birthday, in February. He has lived in Iowa thirty years. Ten or twelve years ago he sold his farm in Chester, and bought one near this city.

Mr. Rutherford leaves four sons and a daughter, his wife having passed away several years ago. Three brothers and a sister also survive, two living in New York, Robert and Thomas, and George near this city. Mr. Rutherford leaves many friends. He was a member of the Congregational church of this city, and before moving here, was a deacon in the church at Chester.

The funeral services were held today in the church by Pastor Vittum, and he was laid to rest in Hazelwood.
