NORMA WEAVER

Norma Weaver, 72, of rural Newburg died Saturday, July 19, at her home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Newburg-Chester United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Ken Wallace officiating. Vocalists will be Jean and Delmar Sharp, and organist will be Alice Renaud. Pallbearers will be Ron Graham, Gary Halverson, Mike Hamor, Kevin Smith, Dan Sondag and Jarl Walters.

Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home of Grinnell in charge of arrangements.

She was the daughter of Clyde and Ethel Gerard Cochran and was born Feb. 18, 1925, in Searsboro. She was raised and educated in the Gilman and Grinnell areas.

She was married to Doyle Weaver Feb. 20, 1942, in Lancaster, Mo., and the couple lived and farmed in the Newburg area.

Mrs. Weaver was a member of Newburg-Chester United Church of Christ where she was involved in the Christian education youth groups, taught Sunday school, directed the choir and served as a delegate to several Iowa Conference U.C.C. events. She was a former junior director of the Iowa Federation of Women's Clubs and was a recipient of the Iowa Governor's Volunteer Award in 1984 and was one of the first recipients of the Ahrens Foundation "Leave It Better Than You Found It" awards.

Surviving are her husband; two sons, George of Tallahassee, Fla., and Clark of Grinnell; two sisters, Mildred Martin of Lancaster, Ohio, and Maxine Hasley of Mouth of Wilson, Va.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Paul.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
