JAMES MCCONAGHIE

James McConaghie was born Jan. 22, 1872, the son of Daniel and Margaret (Law) McConaghie, on a farm near Belfast, in northern Ireland. He died Saturday, July 14, at Sanford hospital in Farmington, Ia.

Mr. McConaghie attended school and grew to young manhood in Ireland. At the age of 20 he came to America; coming directly to Grinnell.

On March 6, 1894, he was united in marriage to Clara Rutherford at Grinnell. To this union seven children were born. They continued to live in Grinnell until 1916 when they moved to Farmington. Mrs. Clara McConaghie passed away Jan. 3, 1940, and two sons, Ross and Maurice, preceded him in death.

On Dec. 7, 1940, he was united in marriage to Mrs. George (Mary Pihlman) Paige at Northwood. They lived their married life in Farmington.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 16, at the Farmington Presbyterian church with pastor Rev. Charles Nelson officiating. Burial was at Corinthian cemetery in Farmington.

Pallbearers were: three grandsons, Paul, James and John Gerster, Rudolph Shirley, Art Steadman Sr. and John B. McGovern.

He is survived by his wife Mary; two sons Dan of Farmington and Fred of San Diego, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Helmer (Mabel) Bygd, Poway, Calif., Mrs. Floyd (Jenny) Payne, Dodge Center, Minn., and Mrs. Ernest (Esther) Gerster, Farmington; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
