MARY JACKSON MCLEAN

Mary Jackson was born in County Down, Ireland, Feb. 1, 1839, and departed this life April 4, 1912, aged 73 years, 2 months and 3 days.

On the 18th day of July, 1859, she was united in marriage to Mr. Samuel McLean. To this union were born twelve children, eight boys and four girls. Two of the children died in the old country and one died here in America.

They came to America in 1884 and settled in Poweshiek county where they have made their home ever since. They lived on a farm nine miles south east of Grinnell until six years ago when they moved to Grinnell. Mrs. McLean was sick all winter and her suffering was very great, but she bore it patiently. She gradually sank away until the end came very peacefully Thursday afternoon.

The deceased was an industrious, kind-hearted woman, respected and beloved by her many friends. She leaves a husband, Samuel McLean, seven children and many grandchildren to mourn her loss. The children are: Samuel of Grinnell, Robert of Dakota, William of Grinnell, Ellen Jane McSpadden of What Cheer, Alexander of Mason City, Lizzie Woods of Marshalltown, Anna Coop of Grinnell, John of Dakota and Agnes Anderson of Grinnell.

The funeral service held Saturday, April 6, 1912, at 2 p.m. was conducted by Rev. W.W. Woodburn and was largely attended. Interment was made at Hazelwood.

Weep not that her tolls are over,
Weep not that her race is run,
God grant we may rest as calmly,
When our work, like hers, is done
Till then we yield with gladness
Our mother to Him to Keep,
And rejoice in the sweet assurance,
"He giveth His loved one sleep."

The bereaved family wish to thank their neighbors and friends for their sympathy and help during their time of trial.
