MRS. MCKNIGHT RITES TODAY

Elizabeth McKnight, 96, of Friendship Manor, formerly of 524 High St., died early Saturday morning, July 5, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Philip J. Ramstad of the United Church of Christ-Congregational officiating. Pallbearers were Gary Downey, James Bennett, Dennis Puls, Brent Beeler, Roger Beeler and Scott Whitehead. Burial was at the Pleasant Townshp Cemetery, Ewart.

The daughter of John and Margaret Rutherford McKeag, she was born March 15, 1884, on a farm near Ewart. She attended rural schools and Grinnell public schools.

She was married to Harley T. McKnight on Jan. 4, 1913, in Kansas City, Kan. The couple lived in Des Moines. Following her husband's death in 1934, Mrs. McKnight moved to Grinnell.

She was a bookkeeper and sales clerk at the former Smith Furniture Store from 1942 to 1949. She was a member of the Grinnell Rebekah Lodge for 73 years and was a past noble grand of the lodge. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters.

Survivors include two nieces, Louise Downey of Des Moines and Helen Puls of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Mary McKeag, Sara Ditzler and Jayne Skidmore; and a brother, James McKeag.
