MRS. JOHN R. DAVIS PASSES

Eliza Jane Lancaster, eldest child of James and Lucetta Stanley Lancaster, was born in Hamilton Co., Indiana, March 24, 1848, and died at her home east of Searsboro March, 8th, 1930, being 80 years, 11 months and 14 days of age. When she was seven years old, her father's family moved to the Quaker settlement at Center, Iowa. The following year they moved to the Hazel Dell community where the father died. She was a birthright member of the Friends church, and continued in that belief until her death.

On November 6, 1870, she was married to John R. Davis, who preceded her in death May 13, 1909. To this union were born eleven children; one girl, Lenora, died at the age of seven years, one boy in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Joshua Main, May 21, 1909. The surviving children are: Otis and Charles of Searsboro, Edgar of Lynnville, John S., Mrs. Andrew Mitchell of Searsboro, Fred L. of Des Moines, Howard and Kelly of Searsboro. There are twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. S.A. Stallings of Cherokee, Okla., and Mrs. Ella Burton of Ruthven, surviving. An only brother, Ben Lancaster, passed away some years ago.

Most of her life was spent in the Lynnville and Searsboro communities. She had an unswerving sense of duty and affection. For years she cared for her invalid mother, and later was the housemaker for her son, Charles and his children, after the death of his wife.

Funeral services were conducted from the Friends church in Searsboro at two o'clock Monday afternoon, March 10, by Rev. Moses Mendenhall of Oskaloosa, assisted by the pastor, Rev. Mr. Haworth and Rev. Glenwood Stanley. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Friends cemetery near Lynnville.

The pallbearers were: John Davis, Frank and Raymond Mitchell, Leo Davis, Given Johnson and Charles Harvey, grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. S.A. Stallings of Cherokee, Okla., Mrs. Ella Burton of Ruthven, John Davis and Herman Wynand of Norfolk, Neb., Mrs. C.B. Adair, Mrs. Max Radloff, Albert, Bernice, Lewis and Elmo Beane of LeGrand.--Montezuma Republican.
