PERISHES IN FIRE

Well Known Former Business Man of Grinnell Caught in Flames Christmas Day.

MASSACHUSETTS BUILDING FIRE CLAIMS POWESHIEK MAN

Was An Old Timer of Merit and Character With Many Friends Here.

J.A. Craver, formerly a well known business man of Grinnell, met death in the fire which destroyed the Massachusetts building in Sioux City on Christmas Day. Mr. Craver ran one of the elevators in the building and had a room there. He and another man were caught by the fire and lost their lives. Word has been received that the body will reach Grinnell Saturday evening and that the funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Blue Point church. Interment will be in the Blue Point cemetery where the body of Mr. Craver's wife now rests.

Mr. Craver was 72 years old. He was a member of the well known Craver family so prominent in the history of the county. He grew to manhood southeast of Searsboro vicinity. For a number of years he was engaged in the implement business in Grinnell. He was one of the town's prominent citizens and is well remembered by many of the old-timers here. He has been away from Grinnell in the neighborhood of 25 years.

Mr. Craver married Anna Gorsuch, who preceded him in death. She was a sister of Mrs. E.W. Bortell. Two children survive, John Craver of Denver, and Mary, a trained nurse in Sioux City, and there are many relatives.

All who knew Mr. Craver in the days of his activity here deeply regret his tragic fate and extend their sympathy to the bereaved family.
