GEO. WHEATON PASSES AWAY ON SUNDAY

Resident of Grinnell for Past Thirty Years Dies at Age of 82 Years: Funeral This Morning

George Ballard Wheaton, who died at his home on Summer street September 9, at the ripe age of 82 years, one month and fifteen days, was born at Troy, New York, July 24, 1852, and was able to celebrate his eight-second birthday with his friends. In early life he came to Keokuk, Iowa. Later he engaged in business at Agency, Iowa, and Plankerton, South Dakota. About thirty years ago he moved to Grinnell and was collector for the Spaulding Manufacturing Company for a number of years. For a few years he was engaged in the popcorn business but has lived a retired life for the last few years. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and a Mason.

April 10, 1877, he was married to Sarah Scott, his helpmeet for over fifty-seven years. He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Vera Ashton, of Aurora, Illinois, a brother, Frank, of Agency, Iowa, and two sisters, Mrs. Fanny Smith and Mrs. Ella Baker of Los Angeles, Calif.

Funeral services were conducted at the Smith funeral home Tuesday morning by the Rev. W.J. Stewart. Dave Phillips sang "Going Home," accompanied by Bernice Copeland.

Interment at Agency.
