HOWARD WILLIAM SWAIN
Funeral services were here Friday for Howard Swain, 47, who died Mar. 12, 1969 at his rooming house in Cedar Rapids. Rev. E. Edward Philgreen, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, Iowa was in charge at First United Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Ed Bartachk was organist. Burial was in Brooklyn IOOF Cemetery with pallbearers Glen Wheeler, Dan Akery, Howard Patten, Glenn Mowrey, Marion Goodrich and LeRoy Patten. Flower attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hiner. The son of Charles B. and Addie Shirts Swain, Howard William Swain was born Sept. 7, 1921 in Brooklyn. He grew up in this community and for the past 20 years had been employed at Wilson's packing plant in Cedar Rapids. He commuted from Brooklyn to his work each week. He was married to Marjorie Woodle May 1, 1943 at Lancster, Missouri. The couple had one son, Roger Howard, who died in 1964. Survivors besides his wife, include four brothers, Raymond, Truman and George Swain of Austin, Minnesota and Lewis Swain of Newton, Iowa; and two sisters, Mrs. May Jane Deedrick and Mrs. Ruth Miller of Grinnell, Iowa. Three brothers, Edmond, Alman and Vernon and a sister, Helen, preceded him in death.
