MARY K. SANGER
Mary Katherine Sanger, 91, of Friendship Manor died Thursday, May 6.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lon Lewis of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and pallbearers were Tom, Catherine and George Mardikes and Sean, S. Nicole, Andrew and Daniel Sanger.
Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
The daughter of Herman and Myrtle Lamb Jantzen, she was born March 23, 1902, in Malcom. The family moved to Grinnell, and she attended Grinnell schools, graduating from Grinnell High School in 1921.
She was married to Everett Sanger Nov. 8, 1924, in Iowa City. They lived in Grinnell where she worked for many years at Grinnell Office Supply and Boklada.
She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist church and the women's fellowship of the church. She also was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, the Pythian Sisters, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Daughters of Union Veterans.
Surviving are one daughter, Myrtle "Mert" Mardikes of Kansas City; two sons, Thomas of Oakland Acres and David of Salida, Colo.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Paul K. Jantzen of Fort Worth, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Ernest, Tom and Louis Jantzen; and three sisters, Hattie Pedersen and Edith and Rachel Jantzen.
