MATTIE MCNAUL RITES SATURDAY

Mattie McNaul, 62, wife of James McNaul of Rte. 1, Grinnell, died Wednesday morning at Grinnell General Hospital, following a brief illness.

The daughter of Isaac and Nora Gooch Griffin, she was born on Feb. 4, 1909, at Reinhart, Texas. When she was six months old, her parents moved to the Kellogg community, and she received her education at the Rock Creek school, completing it at the Malcom public school when her parents moved there.

On June 27, 1928, she was married to James McNaul at the home of his sister, Mrs. Harold Carlsen, south of Brooklyn. Following their marriage the couple farmed in the Montezuma and Malcom communities; four years ago they moved to their farm southwest of Grinnell.

Mrs. McNaul is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Anna Mae) Wakeley of Malcom and Mrs. Ralph (Agnes) Creps of Brooklyn; two sons, John McNaul of Montezuma and Harold McNaul of Malcom; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Irene Fisk of Searsboro; 21 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Joe Baird of Montezuma; a brother, Vern Griffin of Montezuma; a half-sister, Mrs. Alfred Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz.; a half-brother, Clyde Griffin of Washington, Ia.; a half-sister, Mrs. Robert Stemsrud of Grinnell; a step-brother, Harold Pierce of Montezuma; a step-sister, Mrs. Lowell Roberts of Rockford, Ill.; and her stepmother, Mrs. Viola Griffin of Montezuma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James, in September of 1969; a sister, Mrs. Lodema Story; and a half-sister, Stella, who died in infancy.

Funeral services for Mrs. McNaul will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hugh A. Shiveley, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Vocalist will be Mrs. Ruth Ann Dayton, and organist will be Mrs. Kathleen Heffner. Serving on the flower committee will be Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moore and Mr. and Mrs. Daryl Thompson.

Pallbearers will include Robert Story, John Griffin, Pete Jordan, Donald Roof, Bill Gregory and Raymond Spriggs.
