JOHN CLAYTON HAYS

John Clayton Hay, was born at Mingo, Iowa, Jan. 22, 1879, the son of Conrad Hay and Susan Borts Hay. He died Saturday, Aug. 25, 1956, in Grinnell after an illness of several months.

On Sept. 5, 1899, he was married at Greencastle to Rosa Barker who survives. Also surviving are four children, Morris Hay of Kellogg, John Hay of Searsboro, Opal (Mrs. Vern) Millgate of Grinnell and Irene (Mrs. Nelson) Briggs of Kellogg. Other survivors include nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A resident of Grinnell for the past 22 years, he had been a farmer by occupation. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist church.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 27 at the Smith funeral home. Officiating at the services was Elder Fred Phipps of LeGrand. Burial was at Hazelwood cemetery.

Music for the service was provided by the Rev. and Mrs. R.J. Houghton of Grinnell. Pallbearers were Virgil Doud, William Potts, Henley Smith, Dean Thompson, Ralph Thompson, and Will Turney.
