MARY LUCILLE ASHING

Mary Lucille Ashing, 87, died Saturday, April 13, at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny of a heart ailment.

A funeral Mass was held Tuesday, April 16, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Stephen Page, pastor of St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Victor, and the Rev. Mr. William D. Olson, deacon, St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Music was by Alice Renaud, organist, and the choir of St. Mary's Church. Pallbearers were Dick Badger, Harold Freund, Jim Hotchkin, Mike Hotchkin, Tom Hotchkin, Brian Mack and Lyle Meredith. Honorary bearers were Ben Badger and Bill Badger. Interment was in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the National Arthritis Foundation.

She was born April 21, 1908, in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County, the daughter of James and Mary Duggan Hotchkin. She attended the Grinnell schools, graduating form Grinnell High School with the class of 1926, and attended Grinnell College. She also attended Gem City College in Quincy, Ill.

She was married April 2, 1934, in St. Mary's Catholic Church to Floyd Ashing. The Ashings lived in Des Moines where she owned and operated Randolph Dress Shop. She retired in 1968 and recently had been a resident of Sunnyview Care Center.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines and Catholic Daughters of America.

She is survived by her son Tom, Des Moines; two granddaughters; one great granddaughter and her sister Dorothy Stepp, Kellogg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Robert Ashing, three brothers, Joe, John and Jerry Hotchkin, and her sister Helen Badger.
