FLORENCE CLINE SYMINGTON

Florence Cline Symington, 79, formerly of 526 West St., Grinnell, died Sunday, June 2, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond C. Lott, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler.

Pallbearers were David Gerard, Howard Inman, Chris Kerby, Denny Lawrence, Don Patten and Steven Roop. Honorary bearers were Jason and Shawn Kerby, Michael and Richard Marsh and Billy Weese.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Fred and Bessie Tennant Harper, she was born Nov. 13, 1911, in Iowa Center. She later moved with her family to Grinnell where she attended school.

She was married to Walter Cline June 14, 1930, in Grinnell. She worked as a waitress at various restaurants. Mr. Cline died in 1960. She was married to William Symington July 12, 1962, in Ashville, N.C. The couple lived in Cedar Rapids until Mr. Symington's death in 1967, at which time she returned to Grinnell.

Mrs. Symington was a member of the United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Betty Marie Evans of Montezuma, Louise May Miller of Ottumwa and Margorie Joy Weese of Pleasant Hill; two sons, Kenneth Edward of Cassville, Mo., and Edwin Eugene of Grinnell; one sister, Dolly Wilson of Grinnell; three brothers, Jasper "Bud" and William Belcher, both of Grinnell, and Clayton Belcher of Phoenix, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one son, Edward; a daughter, Virginia; one grandson; and nine brothers and sisters.
