LAFAYETTE TENNANT CALLED BY DEATH

Funeral services for Lafayette Tennant, who passed away at 7:30 Saturday evening, aged 68 years, 2 months and 1 day, were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Friends church, conducted by Rev. Robert Lincoln. Three appropriate selections were sung by Mr. and Mrs. George Richards. Pall bearers were E.J. Harris, Isaac Howard, William Hall, John Harper, B. Lee and M. Lee. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Lafayette Tennant, son of Cyrus and Rosina Tennant, was born Oct. 17, 1858, in Spring Green, Wisconsin. He came to Iowa in October, 1884.

He was united in marriage Oct. 17, 1885, to Miss Nancy E. See, at Iowa Center, Iowa. To this union were born five daughters and one son. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Mrs. Nancy Tennant, and five daughters, Mrs. Mary Marshall, Mrs. Bessie Belcher, Mrs. Hannah Mitchell, Mrs. Lulu Belcher, of Grinnell, and Mrs. Della Frost of Marshalltown; two brothers, J.M. Tennant of Hasting, Neb,. Daniel Tennant of Spring Green, Wis., and three sisters, Mrs. Hannah Campbell of Oklahoma, Mrs. Ella Goodsell of Dumont, Iowa and Mrs. Bertha Collar of Eagle Bend, Minn. His only son George F. Tennant was killed in action in the world war and Focht-Tennant Post, American Legion, is named for him. He moved his family to Grinnell 31 years ago last March and has made his home in or around Grinnell ever since. He was a loving husband and a kind father.
