RITES HELD FOR BESSIE BELCHER, FORMER RESIDENT

Mrs. Bessie E. Belcher, former Grinnell resident, died at her home in Des Moines on November 4th. Funeral services were conducted November 6th from the First Assembly of God church in Grinnell with the Rev. R.J. Houghton officiating.

Daughter of Nancy and Lafe Tennant, she was born January 1st, 1891 at Iowa Center and moved to Grinnell when a small child. She was united in marriage with Fred Harper and to this union four daughters were born. Mr. Harper preceded her in death in 1916.

In 1918, she was married to Jasper Belcher and they were the parents of nine children. With her family, she moved to Des Moines in 1942 and resided there until her death.

She is survived by six daughters and five sons: Emma Thompson of Crawfordsville, Ind., Florence Kline and Dolly Wilson of Grinnell, Pearl See and Ruth Blanchard of Des Moines, and Fern Lloyd of Waukee; Alfred of Sioux City, William of Grinnell, Forest and Jasper, Jr., of Des Moines, and Clayton of Arizona. Also surviving are four sisters, 41 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Belcher was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, two daughters and one son.

Mrs. Belcher was a member of the original group which later became the First Assembly of God church in Grinnell.
