JOHN WILLIAM SOUTER

John William Souter, son of John and Agnes McMeekin Souter, was born August 17, 1875 near Ewart, Iowa.

His early life was spent on his father's farm. Later he took up photography, which profession he followed after his marriage to Ethel Latcham, on Oct. 3, 1907. They were married at the home of her parents in Mahaska county, near Browntown. He opened a studio at New Sharon where he and his wife made their first home.

From New Sharon they moved to Davenport, Iowa, where he and his wife attended Universal Chiropractic college, graduating in the class of 1910.

He started his practice in Oskaloosa, moving to Grinnell around 1920, where he continued the practice of Chiropractic until one month ago when he became ill and entered a Grinnell hospital, passing away Jan. 19, 1957, having reached the age of 81 years, 5 months and 2 days.

He has been a member of the Masonic lodge since 1912 and was also member of the Eastern Star lodge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, May 10, 1955. Also preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Mrs. Lena Gregson.

He leaves to mourn his passing one brother R.H. Souter of Montezuma, 7 nephews and three nieces, also a number of grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.

He asked for and received Christian baptism by the pastor of the United Presbyterian church on Jan. 15, 1957.
