FRED LIDTKA RITES WEDNESDAY

Fred D. "Sye" Lidtka, 74, of Montezuma died Saturday, June 4, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma, with the Rev. Warren James of the Montezuma Regular Baptist Church officiating. Military rites were conducted by Blakley-Steven Post No. 169, American Legion, with burial in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

He was born Dec. 26, 1913, in Poweshiek County, the son of John L. and Anna P. Schultz Lidtka. He graduated from Malcom High School in 1932. Mr. Lidtka enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served with the 11th Armored Division during World War II.

He was married to Virginia Kriegel Feb. 28, 1946, in Brooklyn. The couple lived in Montezuma where Mr. Lidtka operated Lidtka Brothers Garage for nearly 40 years with his brother Gerald.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Karen Schmidt of Montezuma; one sister, Mildred Winburn of Grinnell; and a brother, Gerald of Montezuma. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, John.
