RITES HELD FOR MARY ADKINS

Mary G. Adkins, 82, of 930 State St., Grinnell, died early Saturday morning at Grinnell General Hospital of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fred Pierce of the Brooklyn Methodist Church officiating. Organist was Mrs. Leonard Pearce. Pallbearers were Gene Adkins, Lee Adkins, James Powell, Jerry Verwers, Gary Wright and Harold Wright Jr. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of John and Charity Ingraham McIlrath, she was born March 27, 1894, near Laurel. She attended rural school near the family farm and later attended Grinnell High School.

On Jan. 19, 1918, she was married to George B. Adkins at her parents' home. Following Mr. Adkins' service during World War I, the couple farmed in Grant Township northeast of Grinnell until Mr. Adkins retired in 1958. They then moved to Grinnell to make their home. Mr. Adkins preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1960.

Mrs. Adkins was a member of the Veterans of World War I Ladies Auxiliary, the Rest and Recreation Club, and the Friendship Widows Club. She attended the Grinnell United Methodist Church and was a member of Circle No. 1, United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her son, Delmar M. Adkins of Brooklyn; her daughter, Mrs. Harold (Harriet) Wright of Kasson, Minn.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Ida Lukehart, Mrs. Daisey Smith and Ruby McIlrath, all of Laurel, and Mrs. Charlotte Hauser of Bayard. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
