MRS. GEORGE W. HOOVER

Mary Ann Witters was born in Bath Valley, Pa., October 15, 1813, and moved with her parents to Blair County, Pa., when a little girl, and was there married to George W. Hoover. Then they went to Clearfield County, Pa., and there commenced life at Mt. Pleasant, continuing to live in Clearfield and Cambridge counties till twelve children blessed their union--five sons and seven daughters. In November, 1868, they moved to Iowa. Four sons and two daughters preceded Mrs. Hoover to the spirit world. Those that remain are: L.D. Hoover of Jasper county, Mrs. E. Fister of Grinnell, Mrs. R.A. Starr of Chicago, Mrs. Matilda Oshell of Huntington County, Pa., Mrs. Henrietta Noel of Grinnell and Mrs. Jennie Vanfleet of Minnesota; also Mr. G.W. Hoover, her aged companion, survives her, besides 36 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren. Two of her sons, she sent to their country's services--J.D. Hoover, the only surviving son, and Henry D. Hoover, who gave his life for his country and home. Mother Hoover united with the United Brethren church in 1843, and has lived a most consecrated christian life during all of her long period of suffering. For over four years she lay on a bed of affliction without a murmur or complaint. During the 67 years of her married life she was a model christian, a loving companion and a precious mother. She longed to go home to rest in peace. She died August 23, at 11 p.m., without a struggle, having retained her mind until she fell asleep in the arms of Jesus, at the age of 86 yers, 10 months and eight days. The funeral services were conducted Sunday morning, Aug. 26, at 10 o'clock, by Rev. W. A. King, pastor of the United Brethren church of Newburg, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.J. Fister.
