THE PASSING OF GEORGE MILLIGAN

George W. Milligan was born January 25, 1852, in Jefferson County, Ohio, and died at his home in the early morning of April 16, 1926, after a long and tedious illness of several years. In 1856 his father brought the family to Iowa and settled near Madrid in Boone county. Mr. Milligan has made his home in Iowa ever since. He has been a resident of Grinnell since 1886. In 1884 he was united in marriage with Belle V. Snyder of Sheldahl in Story county. Mr. Milligan was one of ten children all of whom preceded him in death except one brother, Luther B. Milligan of Loup City, Nebraska. He was converted in 1884 and united with the Methodist church in Sheldahl and on coming to Grinnell placed his membership with the Methodist church here and has continued a faithful member, giving the church the first place in his life.

Mr. Milligan was affiliated with the Masons and Oddfellows. By trade a stone mason he continued active at his trade until seven years ago when he was stricken and has been an invalid to the time of his death.

Funeral services will be held from the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in charge of the Rev. George Blagg. Burial will be in Hazelwood.

The writer has been acquainted with Mr. Milligan and his wife for thirty-six years. We are glad to add a kind word to the brief notice given us by one of his friends. He was in every way a clean, upright, dependable man, modest, retiring, but industrious, generous, cordial and a real gentleman. He was a friend worth having and one who has been sadly missed in the circle in which he moved. In his death Grinnell loses an honest and worthy man.
