CECIL L. RINGGENBERG

Cecil L. Ringgenberg, 81, of Newton, the father of Helen Meyer of Grinnell, died of heart failure Thursday, June 4, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton, with the Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Newton, officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The son of George and Emma Harpel Ringgenberg, he was born Feb. 2, 1911, in Aurora, S.D. He attended school in Clear Lake.

He was married to Alice M. Marshall Nov. 21, 1941, in Marshalltown. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy as a chief shipfitter. He worked for the Maytag Co. for 27 years, retiring in February 1973. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Jasper County Historical and Genealogical Society.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, George E. of Des Moines and David L. of Newton; three daughters, Helen Meyer of Grinnell, Marilyn Fredricksen of Vancouver, Wash., and Patricia Ringgenberg of Albuquerque, N.M .; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Ralph, Lloyd, Willard, Lester and Jack; and four sisters, Hazel Horning, Pearl Smith, Maybelle Groom and Gladys Helberg.
