LOREN READ EDGINGTON

The son of George Christopher and Dora Read Edgington, Loren was born Dec. 9, 1903 on the family farm near Jacob Switch, south of Grinnell. He attended the rural schools near the family farm home.

Loren was married to Alice Mildred Ahrens on Jan. 23, 1936 at St. John's Lutheran parsonage in Grinnell. The couple farmed north of Brooklyn, east of Tama, west of Toledo, near Rock Creek Lake, and then east of Tama before moving to Tucson, Ariz. in 1945. While in Tucson he worked as a truck driver and carpenter. Loren and Alice returned to Grinnell in 1952 and lived at 1012 Summer Street. While in Grinnell he was associated with Cargil until retiring in 1968.

Loren is survived by his wife, Alice; two daughters, Ruth Ann Kelly of Newton and Darla Marie Granzow of Castro Valley, Calif.; three granchildren, Susan Kelly of Antioch, Calif.; Sandra Kelly of Newton; and Kurt Granzow of Santa Clara, Calif.; and his brother and sister, Harold Edgington and Mildred Edgington, both of Grinnell.

Loren died Sept. 18, at St. Francis Manor at the age of 86.

Funeral services were conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church, Grinnell, Sept. 21. Officiating was Rev. Arvid Dixen.

Pallbearers were Paul Ahrens, Roger Edgington, Duane Freese, Kendall Butler, Ronald Edgington and Stephen Reams with interment in Hazelwood cemetery, Grinnell.
