DONALD D. KING

Donald D. King, 64, of 1204 Third Ave., Grinnell, died of emphysema Thursday, Feb. 8, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. David R. Green of the Assembly of God Church and the Rev. Sam Reaves officiating.

Pallbearers were Ernest Blankenfeld, Mike Brown, Bill Burk, Bob Kammerer, Edward Ritchie and Paul Strovers. Honorary bearers were Jim Ent, Don Sears, Charles Rose and Dwight George.

Military graveside rites were conducted by members of the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit at Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman.

The son of Cecil Herman and Emily I. Colbert King, he was born Jan. 28, 1926, at What Cheer. He lived with his family in Oskaloosa until coming to Grinnell in 1935. He was a 1944 graduate of Grinnell High School and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was married to Alberta Mae McIlrath Jan. 28, 1946, in Grinnell. He and his wife owned King's Leather Goods.

Mr. King served in the Grinnell Planning and Zoning Commission and the Veterans Memorial Commission. He was a member of the American Legion and a past member of the Odd Fellows lodge.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Danny of Springfield, Mo., and Donald Jr. and David, both of Grinnell; one daughter, Diane Griffith of Brooklyn; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Jack of Livermore, Calif., and Larry of Charlottesville, Va.; one sister, Kathleen Libassi of Melborune, Fla.; his stepmother, Doris Colbert King of North Liberty; two stepbrothers, Everett Colbert of Bismarck, N.D., and Max Colbert of Republic, Mo.; and one step-sister, Betty Hellman of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Wayne, and his parents.
