VIRGIL SHERWOOD SERVICES HELD

Virgil (Bud) Sherwood, died March 28 at his home in rural Brooklyn.

Funeral services were held March 31 at the First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, with the Rev. Lynn Williams, pastor, officiating, assisted by Mr. Sherwood's grandson, the Rev. Brad Braley. Organist was Nina Bartachek and flower attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Dean Montgomery and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Creps. Casket bearers were Neal Nesselroad, Bruce and Brian Braley, Shawn, Steve and Stan Sherwood, Steve Wright, Jon Cook, Reed Wykhuis and Todd Gryp. Interment was in the Hartwick Cemetery, with Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sherwood was born March 17, 1908, near Hartwick, the son of Harry Amos and Myrtle Fisher Sherwood. He attended the Hartwick school, graduating in 1927. He attended college in Cedar Falls and Cedar Rapids. He farmed for 40 years and also did trucking. He married Evelyn R. Torrance Aug. 9, 1927. She died in 1969 and on Aug. 14, 1971, he married Ruth Ryan in Brooklyn.

He was a member of the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Hartwick Congregational Church.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; two sons Scott and Lowell Sherwood, both of Brooklyn; two daughters Barbara Nesselroad and Marcia Braley, also of Brooklyn; two stepsons, Steve Ryan, Kansas City, Mo., and Chris Ryan, Iowa City; three stepdaughters Jeanette Keller, Oklahoma City; Okla. and Phyllis Jackson and Lynn Youngman, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, Robert, Belle Plaine, and Lowell, Percival; two sisters, Violet Osborne, Davenport, and Leota Bender, Phoenix, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
