LISLE OSTROM SPENT GIRLHOOD IN BROOKLYN

Funeral Services were Held in Brooklyn Sunday, Burial was in Hartwick Cemetery

Lisle Ostrom was born at Hartwick, Iowa, April 18, 1901, and departed this life at Dubuque, Iowa, April 7, 1922.

Her mother passed away a few months after Lisle was born and her care was then taken over by the good woman who later became her step-mother, and under whose motherly care and influence the family of motherless children was kept together. Lisle was the only daughter. She grew up to possess those charms of young womanhood and Christian character for which she was so highly esteemed by the multitude of friends who mourn her untimely departure.

After her father's death nine years ago, the family moved to Brooklyn, where she received her education, graduating from the Brooklyn High School in 1920.

She united with the M.E. church of Brooklyn early in life and was active in the work of the primary department of the Sunday School.

On July 11, 1920, she was married to Walter R. McIlrath, of Grinnell, Iowa. To this union a little son was born on August 6, 1921. Her devotion to her baby during the few months she was permitted to care for him and her loyalty to her husband and her home were evidence of the high regard in which she held the responsibility of wife and motherhood.

Besides her husband and little son she lesaves to mourn her loss her step-mother, Mrs. Ada Ostrom; two brothers Ray of Hartwick, Earl, of Fortress Monroe, Virginia; one half sister, Mrs. Freeman Dayton of Brooklyn; a half brother, Percy Ostrom of Brooklyn; also a step-brother, William Smith of Brooklyn.

She was also a member of the Eastern Star and a charter member of the Auxiliary of the American Legion.

Her health began failing last October and everything known to medical skill and science was brought into use to assist her in the fight she so bravely made for her life, but it was not so to be and she peacefully passed away April 7, 1922 at the age of 20 years, 11 months and 21 days.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Brooklyn, at two o'clock Sunday afternoon, by Rev. E.W. Cross, of Grinnell, assisted by the Brooklyn pastor, Rev. Mr. Poole. The grave service was conducted at the church by the Order of Eastern Star, and burial was in Hartwick cemetery.
